Personal experience

Dr. Robinson received his medical degree from the University of Cape Town where he received amongst other awards, the Council Postgraduate Scholarship Bernard Fuller Prize, for the best student qualifying with First Class Honors. After completing his fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Robinson spent another year on staff as Assistant Chief of Service, allowing him to supervise resident education as well as surgical training. Dr. Robinson entered private practice in San Diego in 1989.

Dr. Robinson’s interests include macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular diseases, and clinical research. His practice is limited to medical retina, and he has been named one of The Top Doctors in San Diego.

Dr. Robinson is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Retina Specialists, Pacific Retina Club, California Association of Ophthalmology, and the San Diego County Medical Society.

He is a Past President of the San Diego Eye Bank and has served on the Ophthalmology Supervisory Committee at Sharp Memorial Hospital. Dr. Robinson is on staff at Scripps Mercy Hospital and Sharp Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Robinson sees patients at both our Kearny Mesa and Oceanside offices.

Professional Memberships

The American College of Surgeons provides the Fellow, American College of Surgeons (FACS) designation to medical doctors who undergo a rigorous process that verifies their knowledge and dedication to the practice of surgery and medicine. Throughout this process, medical doctors are required to to be evaluated by the American College of Surgeons for several factors, including professional qualifications, education and training, ethical conduct, and overall surgical knowledge and competence. While FACS is the highest level of honor, there are other designations that are available for medical students and new surgeons.
