Personal experience
Dr. Song graduated from Peking Union Medical College in Beijing, China, where he obtained his medical degree with Summa Cum Laude. He then completed his Ph.D. research at the University of Pennsylvania and his ophthalmology residency at the Scheie Eye Institute, also at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Song has received numerous prestigious honors, including the TANO Award from the Asia-Pacific Vitreoretina Society, the Pfizer Research Award from ARVO, and the KL2 Career Development Award from ITMAT/NIH. He further pursued a two-year fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at the Shiley Eye Institute at UC San Diego, where he was awarded the Outstanding Fellow Teaching Award for his commitment to resident teaching and exceptional patient care.
Dr. Song is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retina Specialists. He has served as an investigator in multiple national clinical trials and has contributed to over 50 peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and conference abstracts.
Dr. Song is fluent in Mandarin and has basic proficiency in medical Spanish.
Dr. Song will be seeing patients in both our Kearny Mesa and Oceanside offices.
