The American College of Surgeons provides the Fellow, American College of Surgeons (FACS) designation to medical doctors who undergo a rigorous process that verifies their knowledge and dedication to the practice of surgery and medicine.
Throughout this process, medical doctors are required to to be evaluated by the American College of Surgeons for several factors, including professional qualifications, education and training, ethical conduct, and overall surgical knowledge and competence. While FACS is the highest level of honor, there are other designations that are available for medical students and new surgeons.
